Your first visit
Here at Hope Church, we want to make it easy for you to get to church and enjoyable when you arrive!
We know that coming to church for the first time can bring up some questions like; “What should I wear?” and “What should I expect in church?”, so here is a quick guide to your first visit:
1. When to arrive
We recommend that you arrive around 10:15ish, (we’ve never been too good at time keeping….) If you are running late don’t turn round and go home! You’ll be OK sneaking in after the start as long as you don’t make too much noise.
2. What to wear
Some people dress smart whilst many dress very casually, so you probably won’t feel out of place whatever you’re wearing – just as long as you are comfortable.
3. What to expect
Choose wherever you feel most comfortable to sit.
During the service you’ll enjoy upbeat music and practical teaching from the Bible that you’ll be able to use during the week. It may be a little different to what you expect from a church service, especially if you’re used to a traditional or formal style, but don’t worry. Even if it’s been a long time since you’ve been to church or if you’ve never been to church before, we have you in mind.
4. After the service
We aim to finish around 12:15ish…
Many people mill around church for a while afterwards, chatting and catching up on things, so there’s no pressure to rush away. Stay for a drink and a biscuit, dunking is allowed…
We know that there can be lots to think about when visiting a church for the first time, so we hope this encourages you to join us on Sunday and, more importantly, helps you to discover the amazing things God has planned for your life!
Now, a re-cap of the main points,
- A Bible reading and a talk to help us understand it.
- Singing of modern and traditional songs.
- Prayers, thanking God for who he is and what he has done, saying sorry for things we have done wrong and asking God for his help for our concerns for individuals and situations in our church and the world.
- A drink and a biscuit
